The Assistant Controller supports the financial integrity and growth of the organization by owning key accounting functions, strengthening reporting processes, and relieving capacity at the Controller level. Reporting to the Controller and working closely with the Chief Accountant, this role is ideal for a proactive, technically strong accountant who thrives in a fast-paced, project-driven environment and wants to make a meaningful impact.

YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
* Support and lead full-cycle accounting, including journal entries, reconciliations, and month-end close.
* Prepare monthly financial statements, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
* Coordinate and track accounts payable, accounts receivable, and intercompany transactions.
* Support project- and construction-based accounting, including accruals, inventory, and budget-to-actual analysis.
* Prepare and review GST/PST and other commodity tax filings.
* Build and maintain Excel-based financial reports, reconciliations, and analysis.
* Identify process gaps and implement efficiencies across accounting workflows.
* Provide clear, timely financial insights and support decision-making for leadership.
* Collaborate with accounting and finance teams across multiple locations.
* Take ownership of responsibilities currently at capacity within the Controller role.
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR
* 3–5 years of progressive accounting experience in a fast-paced environment.
* CPA designation preferred; candidates actively pursuing CPA will be considered.
* Experience in construction, project accounting, or project management accounting is a strong asset.
* Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, and SUMIFS).
* Experience with ERP systems; NetSuite experience is an asset.
* Solid understanding of cost flow, accrual accounting, and financial statements.
* Confident, proactive self-starter who can work independently and take initiative.
* Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
* Clear communicator with the ability to speak to financial results and issues.
