The Role at a glance
Lead from the front end: Drive Class D through A estimates on commercial, institutional, and industrial projects.
Own the numbers: Develop detailed cost models, identify risk exposure, and clearly define assumptions.
Collaborate strategically: Work closely with senior leadership, project managers, and operations to position bids for success.
Strengthen trade partnerships: Build and maintain strong relationships with subcontractors and suppliers to ensure reliable, competitive pricing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead full-cycle estimating from conceptual budgeting through tender close.
- Complete comprehensive quantity takeoffs across all disciplines.
- Review architectural, structural, civil, mechanical, and electrical drawings.
- Analyze tender documents, addenda, and RFIs to identify scope gaps and risk.
- Develop competitive bid strategies in collaboration with leadership.
- Solicit, level, and negotiate subcontractor and supplier pricing.
- Provide value engineering recommendations to improve feasibility and protect margin.
- Track market trends and maintain historical cost databases.
- Support construction management budgeting and cost forecasting.
MUST HAVES:
- 10+ years of estimating experience with a General Contractor.
- Proven experience pricing commercial, & industrial projects.
- Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and cost drivers.
- Experience in both hard bid and negotiated work.
- Advanced blueprint reading and multi-discipline interpretation.
- High proficiency in Excel and estimating software (ProEst, Sage, Bluebeam).
- Experience with Procore, Autodesk Build/BIM 360, MS Project, or similar platforms.
- Diploma or Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or related field.
- Gold Seal Estimator designation would be nice to have, but not an asset.
- Strong negotiation skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform under tight deadlines.
