Lead the estimating desk for one of Manitoba's most established mechanical contractors.
Pinnacle is exclusively recruiting on behalf of our client, a family-owned and operated mechanical contractor that has served Winnipeg for over five decades. Their commercial work spans full mechanical contracting, including plumbing, heating, HVAC, system balancing, fire protection, and design assistance, delivered by an experienced team of tradespeople, project managers, and estimators.
They are known for hiring, training, and keeping skilled people, and for putting quality workmanship ahead of shortcuts. Now they are looking for a Senior Estimator to own the full estimating process, from initial drawing review through final bid submission, while leading and developing a Junior Estimator.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Own the estimate desk. Take full ownership of commercial project estimates, from drawings and specifications through final bid assembly and submission.
- Perform material take-offs. Accurately quantify materials and costs, building detailed Excel-based models and maintaining estimating software.
- Source competitive pricing. Work with suppliers and subcontractors to secure current, competitive pricing on equipment and materials.
- Review subcontractor bids. Assess sub-trade bids for capability, scope gaps, and risk, and resolve issues before they become field problems.
- Manage PCN pricing and clarifications. Prepare clarifications and PCN pricing as required, and obtain bid bonds and surety documents when needed.
- Lead a Junior Estimator. Supervise and develop a Junior Estimator to build a high-performing estimating function for the commercial department.
- Stay connected to the field. Attend site visits and meet with project foremen so estimates reflect real-world conditions.
- Partner with leadership. Participate in estimating manager reviews, bringing accuracy, accountability, and commercial insight to every project.
MUST HAVES
- Senior-level estimating experience in commercial construction, with a background in mechanical, plumbing and heating, or general contracting
- Project management experience will also be considered
- Working knowledge of commercial mechanical systems such as plumbing, heating, and HVAC
- Strong analytical skills with an exceptional eye for detail
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and estimating software
- Excellent communication skills with contractors, subcontractors, suppliers, and internal leadership
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple competing deadlines
- Ability to work independently with minimal oversight and collaboratively as part of a team
- Interest in mentoring and developing junior staff
